Sardinia is a land of disarming beauty where the fantasy of nature blends with a thousands-years-old history and ancient magic that you can feel in the air.

If you visit this island, you will feel the vibes in the masks on display in the shops, in the jewellery and the sound of the traditional instruments, a soul has come down to us from distant times. You cannot experience Sardinia without experiencing its traditions and festivals, listening to its songs and tasting its food. You can't experience Sardinia without listening to its stories and hearing the sound of the footsteps of the figures parading through the streets. There is no Sardinia without its events that bring the past to life and speak of the present.

The Sassari Chamber of Commerce knows this well, so it created the beautiful project Salude & Trigu to promote the most important and fascinating events in Northern Sardinia, enabling visitors to get to know the magic of this land, which maybe it's not easy to understand, but that's surely the key to love this island.

What is Salude & Trigu

What is Salude & Trigu

Salude & Trigu is an evocative review of the most charming events in Northern Sardinia, that are those taking place every year in the province of Sassari, involving the capital, the other major cities like Alghero and Olbia and many magical villages to discover in the hinterland and along the coastlines.

The 2024 Salude & Trigu's program includes a very rich series of events distributed throughout the year, from the first days of spring to the magical evenings of the Christmas and New Year's holidays. The main topics concerning the events for this edition refer to "Visual and aesthetic arts", "Music" and "Literature", "Folklore and traditional rites" and "Typical local productions", always giving a lot of credit to the very important value of the landscape and nature that distinguish this land in an exceptional way.

With Salude & Trigu and its fantastic events you will be able to immerse in the most authentic North Sardinia, discovering villages, cities and places across this region, between culture and folklore, between the mountains and the sea, between a past that has never passed completely and a present that wants to add its energy to an already enormous heritage, looking forward into the future with the strength of its territorial roots.

Discover the best of Northern Sardinia with Salude & Trigu

Salude & Trigu, events schedule in Northern Sardinia

The project Salude & Trigu was created with the ambitious goal of enhancing the tourism potential of the whole Northern Sardinia, focusing above all on two fronts: deseasonalize tourism in the region, overcoming the belief that this land is an ideal destination only in summer for seaside holidays, and decentralize the interest of visitors more and more towards the hinterland, the true core of Sardinian identity with its villages, its stories and its emotions.

It is therefore not surprising that, year after year, the rich series of events grows and expands more and more, going beyond the borders of the city of Sassari, the beating heart of Salude & Trigu, to widely reach in beautiful towns such as Alghero and Olbia, iconic towns such as Castelsardo, and above all the small villages that color the wildest hinterland of the region with their unique heritage of wonders to be discovered all year round.

Before diving together into the detailed schedule of events scheduled this year, check out in the next paragraphs some excellent reasons to visit Northern Sardinia on your next trip.

The coast and its scents

Northern Sardinia: coastline landscapes

The rhythmic sound of the waves breaking on the rocks greets the new day as it dawns. Meanwhile, strangely shaped rocks project their silhouette onto the surrounding land from the top of some hill. There is an enormous stone bear that guards the town of Palau in Gallura and used to strike fear into the hearts of sailors. But this is not the only creature born of the patience of Sardinian nature.

Here, the Mistral wind together with the force of the sea, has shaped cliffs, dunes and trees...and so it is easy to find oneself staring at some maritime pine, wondering why it has such a bizarre shape.

The scent of mastic, helichrysum and myrtle mingle with the smell of salt, the protagonists of a nature that has almost entirely preserved its wild beauty.

The coast of Northern Sardinia is a spectacle that is never the same, part of an island considered a micro-continent because of the variety of its ecosystems. Jagged coastlines hiding coves with impalpable sand give way to long sandy shores. As fine as talcum powder, white sand alternates with a coarser, rougher grain as red as granite.

The hinterland, villages and towns

Northern Sardinia: territory, villages and towns

The island's interior is undulating mainly, made up of a few flat stretches and different heights, such as the imposing rocks of Mount Limbara and the soft lines of the Romangia hills. Silent and austere, thousands of years old cone-shaped buildings , nicely known as nuraghi, suddenly emerge from the earth like guardians of a one of a kind cultural heritage.

Towns and villages in the territory rise up here and there in nature that there is still the master of the land. There are villages where people live without haste, where time seems to go on more slowly than elsewhere, and more exciting, larger and modern towns.

And here are the two faces of the same region, Northern Sardinia, living side by side: one more hidden but truly authentic, the other more focused on tourism.

The people and their traditions

Northern Sardinia: events, culture and folklore

And then there are the Sardinians. Profoundly and irrevocably in love with their land. People who live by their traditions with enormous respect and who, especially in certain parts of the island, still believe in magic. They are proud and hospitable people, very attached to the family, for whom food is a ritual, and festivals are so important that they still respect ancient practices.

From dawn to dusk, Northern Sardinia has really nothing "already seen" and nothing "taken for granted" in its sounds and silences, landscape, and everything that cannot be seen by sight. That's why Salude & Trigu is the best storyteller you can find for your trip to this magical island: a programme of events created by people who deeply know their homeland and know how to tell it the best way possible, by authenticity.
