The June 2025 calendar of events in Florence is a journey between different worlds, catering to cross tastes and interests. If you love great live music, the Visarno Arena transforms into a mecca of rock and pop especially thanks to the mega festival Firenze Rocks, which this year lines up giants such as Green Day, Guns N' Roses and Korn. The same space will also host Pinguini Tattici Nucleari, among the most beloved Italian bands of the moment. If, on the other hand, you prefer more intimate atmospheres, the Cascine Amphitheater will welcome the urban songwriting of Franco126.

If you love contemporary art, Florence offers two major exhibitions: Tracey Emin brings her most iconic works to Palazzo Strozzi in a dialogue between body and feeling, while the Museo del Novecento hosts Thomas J. Price's impressive sculptures that interrogate the concept of identity and representation.

From June 1 to September 30, 2025, Pitti Square will be transformed into a free outdoor cinema as part of the Florentine Summer. Every evening, the public will be able to enjoy screenings of Italian and international films in one of the city's most iconic squares. The event offers a unique opportunity to enjoy cinema under the stars, immersed in the historic atmosphere of Florence. Piazza Pitti is located in the Oltrarno district, easily accessible on foot from the center or by public transportation.

On June 22, 2025, the Limonaia at Villa Strozzi will host two outdoor concerts in the Candlelight series, dedicated to the music of Ludovico Einaudi and the soundtracks of Ennio Morricone, respectively. These events offer an immersive musical experience, with live performances illuminated by candlelight in an atmospheric setting. The Limonaia di Villa Strozzi is located at Via Pisana 77, easily accessible by public transportation or on foot from the historic center. The Museo del Novecento presents an exhibition of monumental sculptures by British artist Thomas J. Price that reflect on identity and representation. The works, made of bronze, depict contemporary figures and invite reflection on social perception. The Museo del Novecento, located in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, is within easy walking distance of the train station of the same name. The band from Bergamo, “I Pinguini Tattici Nucleari”. lands in Florence with its summer tour, promising an engaging and emotionally charged show. Florence Rocks is coming back to set Florence ablaze again in 2025 with four days of live music. This is one of the most important Italian rock music festivals. The Visarno Arena will host big names from the international scene: Guns N' Roses, Korn, Green Day and Weezer are just some of the confirmed headliners. In addition to the concerts, the festival offers a fun area with games, food trucks and relaxation spaces.

Visarno Arena - June 12-15, 2025

Palazzo Strozzi hosts the largest Italian exhibition dedicated to Tracey Emin, a leading artist in contemporary art. The exhibition, curated by Arturo Galansino, features more than 60 works that explore personal and universal themes such as the body, desire, love and sacrifice. The exhibition, which will be on display until July 20, 2025, includes paintings, drawings, videos, photographs and sculptures, many of which are being shown for the first time in Italy. Palazzo Strozzi, located in the historic center of Florence, is easily accessible on foot from Santa Maria Novella station or by city bus lines. From April 10 to September 9, 2025, Palazzo Medici Riccardi is hosting a monographic exhibition dedicated to Giovan Battista Foggini, a central figure of the Florentine Baroque. The exhibition, on display until Sept. 9, 2025, presents a selection of works that highlight Foggini's talent as a sculptor and architect in the service of the Medici family. Palazzo Medici Riccardi, located on Via Cavour, is one of the most important Renaissance buildings in Florence and within easy walking distance of the historic center. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to learn more about an artist who left a significant mark on the city's art and architecture.

Florentine Historical Football is one of the city's oldest and most heartfelt traditions. It is a combination of soccer, rugby and wrestling, played in historical costume. The matches take place in Piazza Santa Croce, transformed for the occasion into a sandy arena. Four teams representing the city's four historic districts compete in a tournament: the Whites of Santo Spirito, the Blues of Santa Croce, the Reds of Santa Maria Novella, and the Greens of San Giovanni.

The semifinals are usually held in mid-June, while the finals are held on June 24, the day of St. John the Baptist, Florence's patron saint. The event attracts locals and tourists alike, offering a unique spectacle. It is recommended to purchase tickets in advance, given the large turnout. 

This year we will have the first semifinal between the Blue and White on June 10 at 7 p.m., with the procession at 5 p.m. from Piazza Santa Maria Novella. The second semifinal between the Reds and the Greens on June 11 at 6 p.m., with procession at 4 p.m. from Piazza Santa Maria Novella.

As mentioned, final on June 24, again in Piazza Santa Croce.

From June 17-20, 2025, the Fortezza da Basso will host Pitti Immagine Uomo, one of the world's most important men's fashion fairs. The event attracts designers, buyers and fashion enthusiasts from all over the world, presenting new collections and trends in the industry. In addition to exhibition booths, there are side events, fashion shows and presentations at various locations around the city. The Fortezza da Basso is easily accessible on foot from the Santa Maria Novella train station.

On June 24, Florence celebrates its patron saint, St. John the Baptist, with a series of events culminating in a breathtaking fireworks display. The day begins with religious ceremonies and historical parades, followed by the final of the Florentine Historical Football in Piazza Santa Croce. In the evening, the so-called “fochi di San Giovanni” light up the sky above the Arno River, visible from various points in the city, including the Lungarno and Piazzale Michelangelo, starting at 10 p.m. To see them you can find places in the historic center, particularly along the banks of the Arno River, but we recommend arriving early.
