This is a land that has lived in harmony with the vine for centuries, a territory shaped by time and human hands, so unique that it has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its balance between nature and winemaking tradition. The mountains at its back shield the area from northern cold, while constant breezes and sun exposure help the grapes reach their perfect rhythm of ripening.

But the true identity of this land is not only visible on the surface. Beneath the vineyards lies a much older story: soils made of marl, sandstone, and clay-limestone, ancient marine sediments that over time have created the ideal environment for cultivating Glera, the grape that gives life to Valdobbiadene DOCG.

Growing vines here means dealing with often steep slopes, where many tasks cannot be fully mechanized. That’s why viticulture still retains a strongly manual and artisanal character, made of precise gestures repeated with care, season after season.

Within this fascinating and complex context, the experience of Col Vetoraz takes shape—a winery overlooking these hills from a privileged position in Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene, on the highest point of the hill from which it takes its name. Col Vetoraz traces its roots back to 1838, when the Miotto family chose this place to cultivate the vine. Since then, several generations have preserved and enhanced a territory unlike any other, producing sparkling wines that represent the most authentic expression of the land from which they come.

In 1993, Francesco Miotto, together with agronomist Paolo De Bortoli and oenologist Loris Dall’Acqua, officially founded Col Vetoraz Spumanti. From the very beginning, their choices were guided by respect for nature and by the principles of craftsmanship and passion. The goal was clear: to create sparkling wines capable of expressing the true character of the Valdobbiadene area, highlighting its unique geological and climatic features.

The grapes come exclusively from these hills, where steep slopes make the safe use of agricultural machinery particularly difficult. For this reason—and also to protect the health of the vines, allow careful selection of the bunches, and avoid damaging the berries—most of the work is still done by hand, among the rows, with the patience and attention that only hillside viticulture can demand.

It's precisely this daily dedication that has shaped a distinctive style over time, combining tradition with a constant pursuit of quality. Today, with the support of his children Francesca and Daniele, Francesco continues the legacy of the Miotto family. Over time, and especially during the past 25 years, this heritage has also been recognized through numerous awards in major national and international wine competitions.

Starting with the 2017 harvest, Col Vetoraz made a bold decision destined to shape its identity: to renounce the term “Prosecco” and adopt exclusively the designation Valdobbiadene DOCG on all bottles, labels and forms of communication.

What is the reason behind such a clear choice? And why give up a name known all over the world? Over the years, the word “Prosecco” has become increasingly widespread, but also more generic, risking the dilution of the historical and cultural value of the hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.

For Col Vetoraz, the point is simple: wine is not just a name, it’s a place. Speaking of Valdobbiadene DOCG means pointing precisely to where everything begins: within a small hilly landscape shaped over centuries by human work.

Therefore, abandoning the term Prosecco becomes an act of coherence that reflects a clear philosophy: “we produce what we are.” In every bottle you can find far more than a sparkling wine—you can discover the roots of a land that saw the Miotto family grow and that, harvest after harvest, continues to shape the character of its remarkable wines.

To truly understand the philosophy of Col Vetoraz, you simply need to taste its sparkling wines. The winery produces exclusively Valdobbiadene DOCG and Cartizze DOCG, grown on these hills to interpret the most authentic local flavors.

Among the most representative labels is the Superiore di Cartizze, sourced from the highest hills. It's a sparkling wine with an intense yet refined bouquet, where you can find notes of rose, citrus, acacia and white fruits such as peach, pear and apple. Its fine and persistent perlage enhances the wine’s elegance, while on the palate you will discover a full and unmistakable flavor.

Another important wine is the Millesimato Dry Coste di Mezzodì, obtained from grapes selected in the steepest vineyards with the best southern exposure. This orientation ensures particularly balanced ripening, resulting in a sparkling wine that expresses harmony and great finesse.
