Italy continues its triumphal path at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. The path of the Italian athletes so far has been incredible.

2021 is a really important year for Italian sport. After the triumphs in football and the record of medals won in an Olympics, the Azzurri are having a lot of success in the Paralympics too. There are 26 Olympics medals won for Italy at the Paralympics that are taking place these days in Tokyo, the capital of the 2021 Olympics.

The blue medals in swimming at the Paralympics

5 gold medals in swimming for the Italians. The Italian team formed by Xenia Francesca Palazzo, Vittoria Bianco, Giulia Terzi and Alessia Scortechini won the women's 4X100 freestyle relay, followed by Arjola Trimi, who triumphs in the 50 backstroke race, Simone Barlaam in the 50 freestyle race, Stefano Raimondi in the men's breaststroke while for freestyle the gold goes to Francesco Bocciardo. Carlotta Gilli wins the gold in the women's 100 meters butterfly, while, in the same category, it is always an Italian, Alessia Berra to conquer the second place. Silver medals also come from swimming, Giulia Ghiretti in the women's 100m breaststroke, Giulia Terzi in the women's 400m freestyle and Xenia Palazzo in the mixed 200m take home second place. Another silver for Giulia Terzi, Arjola Trimi, Luigi Beggiato and Antonio Fantin in the mixed 4x50 relay and Carlotta Gilli in the women's 100 meters backstroke, Luigi Beggiato in the men's freestyle and Monica Boggioni in the women's one.

The triumph of Bebe Vio in fencing

The most exciting gold medal of all is, undoubtedly, that won by Bebe Vio who in fencing manages to win the gold medal. Bebe Vio wins gold in the women's foil final, category B, thus repeating the success in Rio de Janeiro in the 2016 Paralympics. The 24-year-old from Momigliano Veneto beat the Chinese Jingjing Zhou, in the remake of the Rio 2016 final.

After the historic triumph in the women's foil final at the Tokyo Paralympics, Bebe Vio also won silver in the team foil with Andreea Mogos and Loredana Trigilia.

The other italian medals

In addition to swimming and fencing, Italy at the Paralympics also won other medals in various disciplines, bringing the score to 29 medals, 8 of which are gold.

Among the other medals won the three bronzes in the triathlon of Veronica Yoko Plebani, Anna Barbaro and Giovanni Achenza. Carolina Costa's bronze in judo and Andrea Liverani in the shooting. Italy in the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics is currently tenth-ranked, also equaling the fellow athletes of the Olympics.
