Naples is about to become the next wine capital: discover why

Imagine stepping into the monumental Galleria Umberto I, in the heart of Naples, and finding not only one of the city’s most iconic landmarks, but the starting point of a journey through the vineyards of Campania.

For two days, on September 6 and 7, 2026, more than 130 producers will bring their wines, territories and stories right here for the third edition of Campania Wine, one of the events that best brings together, in a single location, the remarkable diversity of the region’s wine heritage.

But don’t picture a traditional wine fair reserved for experts. Campania Wine is, above all, a wine experience to include in your trip to Naples: you can meet the producers, discover hundreds of labels, join tastings and masterclasses and, glass after glass, travel virtually across a region stretching from Mount Vesuvius to Irpinia, from the Phlegraean Fields all the way to Cilento.

Among the most interesting events in Naples in 2026, Campania Wine offers a special opportunity to discover the wines of Campania without leaving the city center. It is also one of the clearest signs of an ongoing change: Naples is emerging as a destination to discover through wine, alongside its cuisine, history and extraordinary energy.

Campania Wine 2026 will take place on Sunday, September 6, and Monday, September 7, across two venues in central Naples.
The Galleria Umberto I will host the main walk-around wine tasting from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM, featuring wineries from across Campania and open to the public.

Admission to the event is free, even without a tasting ticket. Those who want to take part in the wine tasting can purchase a €15 ticket, which includes the official Campania Wine glass, a glass holder and four tastings at participating wineries.

The MUSAP – Museo Artistico Politecnico di Napoli will host the masterclasses organized in collaboration with AIS Campania. Some are designed specifically for wine lovers and offer guided tastings focused on sparkling, white, rosé and red wines. Each session lasts around 50 minutes, costs €10 and requires advance booking.

You can therefore shape the experience around your own curiosity: stop by freely to soak up the atmosphere, buy a tasting ticket to meet producers through their wines, or add a masterclass to deepen your understanding of what you are tasting.

The real surprise of Campania Wine is that the setting is as much a part of the experience as what is poured into your glass. The Galleria Umberto I is not an exhibition venue on the outskirts of the city temporarily transformed for the occasion, but one of Naples’ most recognizable landmarks. For two days, it becomes a meeting point between the city and the wine landscapes of the entire region.

Talking about wines from Campania in Naples means discovering a remarkably diverse region whose character changes from one area to the next.

Wine production extends across the whole of Campania: from the slopes of Mount Vesuvius to the Phlegraean Fields, from the province of Caserta to Sannio and Irpinia, then south toward Salerno, Cilento and the Amalfi Coast, all the way to the islands of the Gulf of Naples and the Sorrento Peninsula.

Campania Wine brings this extraordinary variety together through the region’s five wine protection consortia: Sannio, Vesuvio, Irpinia, Vitica for the Caserta area and Vita Salernum Vites for the Salerno area, with more than 130 producers and hundreds of DOC and IGT labels gathered in one place.

But perhaps the most fascinating figure is another one: Campania is home to more than one hundred grape varieties. Many wineries have chosen to focus on native grapes and the distinctive qualities of their own territories, preserving a strong connection with tradition while embracing research, innovation and new interpretations.

You do not need to know appellations, winemaking techniques or sommelier terminology to appreciate it. Simply follow your curiosity and perhaps taste two wines produced in different areas to begin to understand just how much the character of a place can change within only a few miles.

At Campania Wine, wine becomes above all a different way of discovering the region, and every tasting reveals volcanic landscapes, inland areas, coastlines, hills and communities of producers that have developed their own relationship with the vine over time.

In just a few hours, you can travel virtually from Mount Vesuvius to the Phlegraean Fields, move on toward Sannio and Irpinia, and then reach Cilento or the Amalfi Coast by talking to the people who cultivate these lands and tasting the wines produced there. On Monday, September 7, the Campania Wine Forum will focus on “Wine Tourism 4.0 in Campania: Territory, Hospitality and Innovation.” Primarily aimed at institutions and industry professionals, the event also reflects the direction the region is taking: turning wine into a gateway to landscapes, communities, cuisine and destinations still waiting to be discovered.
