There is a moment, while walking through an ancient forest, when the wind slips through the leaves, the light filters between the branches, and for an instant, you feel as though someone is watching you.

At the Parco delle Fiabe of Gropparello Castle, in the heart of Emilia-Romagna, magic is not something imagined, it is something that truly happens: around you, within you, and in the hands of your children.

Perched on a spur of dark volcanic rock, above deep gorges overlooking the Vezzeno stream, Gropparello Castle is a real place that somehow feels like it belongs to another world.

Along winding paths carved through stone and beneath ancient trees that guard stories from long ago, children step into fairy tales as true protagonists, while adults, almost without noticing, rediscover a part of themselves they thought they had left behind.

Set among the rolling hills of the Piacenza countryside, just a short distance from the city, the park stands out as one of the most immersive interactive fairytale experiences in Italy and across Europe. It is the perfect destination for those seeking a family weekend that surprises both children and adults, creating memories that linger, and building a bridge between generations.

A place where fairy tales are not told, they are lived

Don’t expect a traditional theme park. There are no predefined routes to observe from a distance, nor attractions to tick off one after another.

The Parco delle Fiabe is an interactive fairytale world, the first “emotional park” in Italy, designed to guide children (from early childhood to early teens) through an experience that blends play, imagination, and personal growth.

Led by knights, fairies, and mysterious creatures of the forest, children step into a story rooted in the Middle Ages. They are not just watching it, they are called to enter it: taking on a role, following hidden paths, facing small challenges, and discovering confidence, trust, and the ability to connect with others.

And while they run through the valley, preparing to face the Ogre, something shifts for the parents too. Suddenly, they remember what it felt like to truly believe in fairy tales, to feel their heart race at the thought of an adventure.

In this delicate balance between reality and imagination, the Parco delle Fiabe becomes a shared space where adults and children meet halfway. And that is precisely what makes it one of the most compelling experiences for family travel in Europe, one that is truly unforgettable.

Children become the heroes, and adults learn to dream again

parco delle fiabe gropparello's castle

At the Parco delle Fiabe of Gropparello Castle, everything is designed to make children active participants in the story. They walk through the forest, encounter characters (fairies, witches, knights, magicians, pilgrims, and mysterious woodland creatures) who, step by step, bring a living tale to life, and prepare them for a mission.

After exploring hidden paths, listening to stories whispered among the trees, and overcoming small challenges, children are called to take a stand and act.

They fight alongside the knight, learn to collaborate, and as they face the Ogre in the final battle, they discover that courage is not the absence of fear, but the way we choose to face it. What seems like a game becomes, in reality, a small rite of passage.

The day unfolds through three engaging moments: the Parco delle Fiabe path, the costumed adventure, and the castle visit, each lasting about an hour and a half. And no visit would be complete without a stop at the Parco delle Fiabe Shop, a small kingdom of medieval and fantasy-themed toys.

At first, parents stay a few steps behind. They think they are there simply to accompany their children. They watch them getting ready, listening to the first words of the forest characters, looking around with that pure curiosity that belongs only to childhood.

But then, something happens. Maybe it’s the rustling of leaves underfoot, or the way the light shifts through the branches. Without even realizing it, they let themselves be carried by a familiar, almost forgotten feeling that suddenly resurfaces: the ability to believe, even just for a moment, that anything is possible.

Parco delle Fiabe: a weekend that flows without rush

For magic to truly work, it needs space and at the Parco delle Fiabe of Gropparello, everything is designed so the experience can unfold naturally, without ever becoming chaotic.

The ticket includes the entire journey: the forest path, the final battle, and the guided visit to the castle, led by costumed characters who extend the story even within the walls of the manor.

Access is by reservation, simple, fast, and online, with instant confirmation and tickets sent directly by email. Entry times are carefully scheduled throughout the day, groups are thoughtfully organized, and detailed timings are shared the day before.

Even on busier days, the experience remains calm and stress-free, striking a rare balance between structure and freedom, an ideal choice if you are looking for a family weekend in Italy that combines emotion and relaxation.

On selected dates, the experience becomes even more special with seasonal events, such as the Dragon Egg Hunt at Easter, the Medieval Market in May, the Grape Festival every Sunday in September, and the Grand Court Festival in October.

The taste of the fairytale: the castle’s new bistro

After wandering through the forest, running along hidden paths, and living the adventure, the new bistro inside Gropparello Castle (opened in 2025) welcomes families into a space that preserves the charm of the setting while interpreting it in a refined, contemporary way.

The flavors reflect the territory, the ingredients reveal a careful selection, and every offering (from light lunches and aperitif boards to breakfasts served by reservation) fits seamlessly into the rhythm of the day, accompanying it rather than interrupting it.

The Cioccolato dei Semplici tasting adds an unexpected touch: a selection of dark chocolates created from a blend of cacao sourced from Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, and Ecuador.

For those who wish to stay immersed in nature, on Parco delle Fiabe days it is also possible to choose picnic baskets to enjoy outdoors, surrounded by greenery.

Alongside the bistro, the Medieval Tavern, with its secret garden, offers a more traditional dining experience: a romantic and picturesque restaurant where guests can savor dishes prepared with local ingredients and selected specialties from across Italy, many of which are recognized in Slow Food’s Ark of Taste.

Sleeping in a tower: the fairytale continues into the night

What if the story didn’t end at sunset?

Among the premium experiences at Gropparello Castle is the chance to stay in the Tower of the Barn Owl, an elegant suite that makes the experience even more unforgettable. For children, it is the natural continuation of the adventure; for adults, it is a way to pause time and linger a little longer in a rediscovered sense of childhood.

You won’t arrive as ordinary guests, but will be welcomed like friends of the family, in a private residence that still preserves its most authentic soul. The castle hosts just one suite, reserved for a single family at a time.

The space unfolds across two distinct rooms: a refined bedroom with a canopy bed and a second room with a sofa bed, perfect for children.

It is an intimate, all-encompassing stay, far removed from fast-paced tourism, a weekend that doesn’t end after a few hours, but stays with you.

A magical weekend at the castle with mom and dad

Spending an entire weekend at Gropparello Castle means stepping into a story that unfolds gradually, with a pace designed to be fully experienced.

Your stay begins in the afternoon, from 4:00 pm, with a warm welcome inside the castle and the delivery of the suite keys. It is a moment of connection, where the owner introduces families to the place, shares its unique character, and suggests experiences to enjoy in the surrounding area.

You can begin your stay with a walk along the castle’s pathways, descend into the Vezzeno Gorge, and explore the Museum of the Rosa Nascente.
It is a gentle route, lasting around three hours, immersed in nature and silence, with the freedom to pause along the way, sit, and simply take in the surroundings.

The second day begins with a freshly prepared breakfast by the castle’s chef, served between 8:00 and 10:00 am on the terrace, in the garden, or in the 19th-century dining room. Homemade bread, cakes, and local products create a slow and comforting start to the day.

At 10:00 am, the experience at the Parco delle Fiabe and the castle begins. After collecting tickets at the ticket office, families (two adults and up to two children) are welcomed by ladies, knights, and a coordinator who helps guide them through the day’s activities.

The experience unfolds between the forest, the costumed adventure, and the castle visit, alternating moments of action with more relaxed pauses. Throughout the day, there is time for an aperitif, a snack, or a stop at the shop, at your own pace.

Lunch at the Medieval Tavern is scheduled around 1:30 pm, but can be brought forward depending on your needs.
