Festive Season 2025–2026 in Aosta Valley: alpine views and historic villages ahead of New Year’s Eve

The 2025–2026 festive season in Aosta Valley is an invitation to experience the region at its most enchanting, where the magic of Christmas blends seamlessly with the anticipation of New Year’s Eve. Illuminated villages, authentic traditions, and activities designed for every kind of traveler turn the valley into a tapestry of winter experiences. Aosta transforms into a charming holiday village thanks to the Marché Vert Noël, running from November 22, 2025, to January 6, 2026: wooden chalets, local crafts, mountain flavors, and picturesque corners make every stroll through the historic center feel like a sensory journey.

The cultural calendar enhances the festive mood as well. At Forte di Bard, from December 7, 2025, to January 6, 2026, the immersive videomapping show Christmas Lights illuminates the fortress walls, while concerts and seasonal performances animate evenings across the region, from Saint-Christophe to La Thuile. In alpine villages, living nativity scenes, workshops, family events, and traditions accompany the lead-up to the final days of the year.

As New Year’s Eve approaches, the valley’s most beloved destinations—Courmayeur, Cogne, Breuil-Cervinia, Gressoney, and others—come alive with special events, dinners at high altitude, snow activities, and local festivities that set the stage for 2026 in true Alpine style. Whether you prefer the slopes, wellness retreats, or the charm of mountain towns, this is the ideal moment to embrace the rhythm of the Aosta Valley winter and approach the New Year with a sense of wonder.

New Year’s Eve in Aosta Valley exploring the marvelous Chanoux Square

Chanoux Square in Aosta

Spending New Year’s Eve in Aosta can prove to be a strategic choice, especially for the central location and many possibilities that this city can offer. Already from late afternoon the streets of the center, especially around Chanoux Square, begin to come alive with street artists and music until late at night.

For dinner there are many choices between the proposals of restaurants and clubs, the proximity to Pila also allows to reach in just 20 minutes by cable car the ski slopes, to dine in a hut with typical Aosta Valley products after an ascent with the snowcat, and the night of December 30 attend the suggestive torchlight procession of ski instructors.

During the holidays in Aosta you can visit the “Marché Vert Noël”, a characteristic Christmas market in wooden houses located in the most beautiful corners of the city: food and wine, crafts, gift ideas, antiques, Christmas decorations and exhibitions of works of wood craftsmen.

During the market it is also possible to visit with a 5 euros special ticket the sites of the archaeological circuit of Aosta: the MAR - Regional Archaeological Museum, the Cryptoporticus Forensic, the Roman Theatre and the early Christian Church of San Lorenzo. You can also participate in guided tours of the archaeological site near the Cathedral and visit the Roman monuments of Augusta Praetoria, the Archaeological Museum, the Cathedral and Sant'Orso Church.

Here is an example of package holidays from the official website of tourism VdA: includes a typical dinner in the warm and welcoming atmosphere of a mountain hut accessible by snowcat.

New Year's Eve in Aosta Valley: “Treinadan” in Courmayeur

New Year's Eve in Aosta Valley: Treinadan in Courmayeur

Another place where we celebrate New Year’s Eve in the square and through the streets is Courmayeur. The exclusive ski resort at the foot of Mont Blanc celebrates the "Treinadan" in Jardin de l'Ange square, the beating heart of the old town, which will come alive with music and fun from 23 to 1 at night: there are many proposals for dinner in restaurants and pubs, in the typical atmosphere of one of the most glamorous destinations in the Alps.

New Year’s Eve on the ski slopes

New Year’s Eve on the ski slopes

The main attraction of the Aosta Valley are definitely the ski slopes: 19 ski resorts, 800 kilometers of slopes and 7 snowparks, and a wide choice of off-piste routes reachable by lift or helicopter from heliski bases.

The great ski areas of the Aosta Valley are the international ones of Breuil-Cervinia (between Italy and Zermatt in Switzerland), La Thuile (between Italy and France) and the 3 Italian valleys of Monterosa Ski: Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna Valsesia in Piedmont.

In addition to the ski areas we have Courmayeur, at the foot of Mont Blanc, Pila which is connected by a cable car to the city of Aosta, Torgnon, Champorcher, Crévacol and other places ideal for families.

Also in this case there are many proposals.

New Year’s Eve in the castles of the Aosta Valley

New Year’s Eve in the castles of the Aosta Valley

Fenis Castle in winter.

Also known as "Valley of 100 Castles", Aosta Valley hosts on its territory a true concentration of history and culture despite being the smallest Italian region: certainly favored by its position, preserves the vestiges of all the people who populated its valleys.

Among the oldest buildings we have the Castle of Graines, in Brusson, the Chatel Argent in Villeneuve and the Castle of Cly in Saint-Denis, dating from the medieval period.

Very characteristic is also the Castle of Verres, a typical fortified building for defensive purposes, or the Castle of Ussel in Châtillon, the first monobloc castle example in Aosta Valley, the latest evolution of the medieval castle. Then there are the most recent castles of Issogne and Fenis, the Fort of Bard that always hosts interesting art exhibitions, or nineteenth-century Savoy Castle in Gressoney-Saint-Jean. Also in Aosta, in addition to the ancient Roman ruins, there are many medieval buildings as the Balivi Tower, the Bramafam Tower or the Leper Tower.

New Year’s Eve in a hot air balloon

New Year’s Eve in a hot air balloon

What more suggestive way to start 2024 than flying in a hot air balloon surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Aosta Valley?

Mont Blanc, Grand Combin, Monte Rosa, Matterhorn and Gran Paradiso, seen from a unique perspective: the average altitude of each flight is 2,000/3,000 meters, which makes these flights higher than Italy and among the highest in Europe.

We start in the morning near Aosta to admire it from another perspective, then continue along the main valley between snowy peaks and enchanted landscapes.

New Year’s Eve in Pré-Saint-Didier Spa

If you prefer a relaxing New Year’s Eve, you can choose between two spas. Pré-Saint-Didier is located at the foot of Mont Blanc at the end of the valley: the structure dates back to 1834 but the beneficial properties of its waters were already known in Roman times. Recently the building has been restored to bring back to its ancient splendor what was a destination of nobles and illustrious people, first of all the royal family members. The spa offers whirlpools, relaxation tubs with underwater music, toning waterfalls, aromatic steam baths, mud area, chromotherapy and aromatherapy rooms, and panoramic relaxation rooms.

In a large outdoor area there are three thermal pools with water at a temperature of 36, in which to relax in the heat even when it snows: in the garden there are saunas created in wooden huts, with panoramic windows that frame an enchanting landscape dominated by the majestic silhouette of Mont Blanc.

New Year’s Eve in Saint-Vincent Spa

Saint-Vincent has no ski slopes nearby: the village is famous for its Casino, one of the largest gambling halls in Europe, but its spas are also a valid attraction. Compared to the thermal baths of Pré-Saint-Didier they have a more recent history: the spring, discovered in 1770, was called "Fons Salutis" for its particular healing properties.

In 2007 a modern spa was added next to the original spa: located in a dominant position over the valley and the amphitheater of the mountains, you can spend relaxing moments in a picturesque landscape.

In the SPA there are three indoor and 2 outdoor pools, each with different proposals for hydromassage and water jets, as well as 2 saunas, three Jacuzzis and a relaxation area on the panoramic terrace, open all year round depending on weather conditions. Pamper yourself and relax at the fabulous thermal pools set at the slopes of Mont Blanc with a Visit Italy ticket.

New Year’s Eve with Siberian Huskies at the foot of the Matterhorn

New Year’s Eve with Siberian Huskies at the foot of the Matterhorn

A perfect experience for families with children and animal lovers is definitely dog sledding: the activity takes place at the foot of the Matterhorn, but you can imagine exploring the Arctic lands, carried on a sled by a Siberian Husky wetsuit in an enchanting snowy landscape.

Learn about dogs and their behavior, the dynamics within the herd, the management during races, the conduct of a sled: will be an all-round experience with the guidance of instructors who will be able to convey all their passion for this discipline.

New Year’s Eve on Mont Blanc

New Year’s Eve on Mont Blanc

For an unusual New Year’s Eve, nothing better than the Skyway, a modern cable car that from 1300 meters of Courmayeur leads in two sections to the panoramic station of Punta Helbronner just under 3,500 meters. Up there, a few steps from the sky, a circular terrace allows you to immerse yourself in the 360-degree panorama: Dente del Gigante, Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, Gran Paradiso and Courmayeur Valley, Val Veny and Val Ferret.

The Sky Vertigo, a totally glass extension, allows you to walk in the void surrounded by mountains: to complete the experience a buffet lunch at the Kartell Bistrot Panoramic and a visit to the crystal room that houses a precious collection of minerals from the Alps.
