What to do in spring in Naples: breakfast with a view at Castel Sant'Elmo

One of the best activities to do in spring in Naples is breakfast with a view, perfect on a sunny Sunday. Whether you are a tourist or a Neapolitan DOC, at least once in your life you must visit Castel Sant'Elmo, a Neapolitan stronghold on the hill of San Martino. From the castle you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire Gulf of Naples and it is here that you can sample one of the tastiest and most impressive breakfasts in the city.

Inside Castel Sant'Elmo is the headquarters of Scaturchio, a well-known Neapolitan bar and pastry shop famous for its sfogliatelle, a typical Neapolitan dessert. Scaturchio's premises inside the castle overlook Vesuvius, making coffee and sfogliatella even better because they are accompanied by a unique view. Don't miss breakfast at the most panoramic bar in Naples, an experience not to be missed!

When spring peeps and the flowers begin to bloom, the Bosco di Capodimonte becomes a destination for many for walks in the open air, picnics on the green lawns, sports activities and aperitifs surrounded by nature.

The Bosco di Capodimonte is not only one of Europe's largest green lungs, a jewel for the Neapolitan city, it is also home to the famous Real Museo di Capodimonte, commissioned by King Charles of Bourbon in 1735 to house the Farnese collections inherited from his mother, consisting of statues, paintings, bronzes, drawings, tapestries, art objects and silverware of all kinds, and of course the famous Capodimonte ceramics.

Inside the Bosco one can relax sipping tea, eating an ice cream or having an aperitif at La Tisaneria. This is a bistro with tables, chairs and sofas both inside and especially outside, surrounded by the greenery of nature with the Reggia rising in the background, all in the shade of a large magnolia tree. A perfect break from it all in one of the city's most beautiful and characteristic places. An aperitif immersed in art, perhaps after visiting the museum and enjoying its priceless riches.

5. Trekking the Path of the Gods

7 things to do in spring in Naples: the Path of the Gods

For those who love hiking and adventure, we can only recommend a trek along the beautiful Sentiero degli Dei, a nature trail counted among the most beautiful in Italy and Europe, an absolute must-do in spring in Naples.

The Sentiero degli Dei links the towns of Agerola and Nocelle, a hamlet of Positano on the famous Monte Pertuso (which we recommend visiting because it is uncrowded and enjoys unparalleled panoramic views). The trail covers a distance of 7.8 km that can be covered in about 4 hours with some rather steep and unpaved sections, so comfortable shoes suitable for trekking, a water bottle and food to refresh oneself are recommended because the trail is totally immersed in nature and there is nowhere to stop to buy water or food.

To reach the trail by car, take the A3 motorway to the Castellammare di Stabia exit and take the SS 366 to Agerola. Easier is the route with the SITA bus that leaves from Naples and arrives directly at Amalfi, from there you continue with a bus that arrives directly at Agerola to start the trail. For the return, simply take the bus in Positano in the direction of Naples.

4. Waterfront promenade with boat ride

7 things to do in spring in Naples: A walk along the seafront with a boat tour

When you arrive in Naples, one of the first things to do is to stroll along the seafront, one of the most picturesque promenades in the world! Starting from Piazza Vittoria you can choose to walk along the seafront towards Castel dell'Ovo or towards the Posillipo hill. Towards Castel dell'Ovo is the most commercial area, full of restaurants, bars, pizzerias, perfect for lunch or dinner with a panoramic view.

Continuing on, take Via Partenope, the famous street of luxury seafront hotels, with the Borgo Marinari and Castel dell'Ovo, perfect for a souvenir photo in the setting of the Borgo's marina. One of the typically Neapolitan traditions is undoubtedly 'taralli e birra a riva e mare'. Naples is made up of simple things like a chat in pleasant company while eating the typical Neapolitan taralli and a beer that takes away the melancholy.

Every day at Via Nazario Sauro, where you stop to eat taralli and drink beer, there is a small wooden boat ready to give you one of the best experiences of your life. The boat ride, especially at sunset, has a breathtaking view of the seafront and Castel dell'Ovo, you can admire the hill of Posillipo and Vomero in the distance on one side, with Castel Sant'Elmo towering on top, and Vesuvius on the other side.

If you choose to walk along the seafront towards the Posillipo hill, you will pass by the Villa Comunale of Naples, which accompanies you on the way. The Villa Comunale is also home to the beautiful Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, a research centre that includes the oldest aquarium in Italy! Once you have walked the entire length of Via Caracciolo, you will first reach Piazza Diaz, where you can also go down to the beach (free of charge, of course) and finally arrive at the famous Chalet area, a meeting place in the evenings for many young Neapolitans.

3. Naples as seen from the sea: a kayak tour

Giving the gift of an experience is always the best choice! Experiences enrich life, indeed broaden it, and what could be better than a canoe ride in the Gulf of Naples? Nothing!

Canoeing in Naples is an experience you never forget, it stays with you because if the view of the sea from the hills of Vomero and Posillipo leaves you breathless, then the view of the city seen from the sea is something that cannot be explained in words.

With the arrival of spring and beautiful sunny days, it is only right and proper to rent a kayak and paddle out to discover hidden places. There are various solutions and many associations that allow you to rent kayaks or SUPs to tour the Gaiola Underwater Park or visit Marechiaro or the famous villas overlooking the sea such as Villa Donn'Anna or Villa Lauro.

2. In the bowels of Naples Underground

7 things to do in spring in Naples: Napoli Sotterranea

One of the things to do in spring in Naples is to visit Napoli Sotterranea, one of the city's most important attractions. With the arrival of warmer and milder temperatures, a walk underground is perfect to cool off.

Its depth, 40 metres underground, makes it very, very cool and it is always advisable to bring a jacket to cover yourself from the high humidity.
In the heart of the historic centre of Naples lies Napoli Sotterranea, a city hidden in the bowels of the earth far from prying eyes, rich in treasures, exuding history, culture and tradition. For years, Napoli Sotterranea was a quarry from which tuff was extracted for the construction of buildings that can still be admired today in most of the city of Naples, the tuff, with its yellowish colour is easily recognisable.
During the Second World War, the dense underground tunnels of Naples were used as a rescue shelter against enemy bombing. How do you get to Napoli Sotterranea? Very easy, just reach Piazza San Gaetano (the inventor of the Crib) in the historic centre of Naples, adjacent to the Basilica of San Paolo Maggiore.

7 things to do in spring in Naples: Virgiliano Park

On the Posillipo hill is one of the most beautiful green areas in Naples: Virgiliano Park. The Virgiliano Park, also called 'Parco della Rimembranza', is one of the Neapolitans' favourite green spaces, especially the students who often gather here after classes or take advantage of the lawns and picnic tables to study outdoors while absorbing vitamin D and contemplating the sea panorama.

The park is located on the hill of Coroglio, a promontory overhanging the sea from which there is a spectacular view of the island of Nisida and the entire waterfront of Bagnoli and Pozzuoli. In the distance, one can also admire the Diego Armando Maradona stadium in Naples, in the Fuorigrotta area.

The Park is a green oasis of 92,000 square metres offering a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Naples. Inaugurated in 1930 and named after the poet Virgil, it is an ideal place for walking, jogging, enjoying nature and admiring the view.

The park is characterised by a rich variety of trees and shrubs, including pines, cedars, holm oaks, palms and agaves. Among the paths winding through the vegetation, one can also find bars, chalets and children's play areas. It is also home to several sculptures and monuments, including the bust of Virgil and the fountain of the god Pan.

In short, the Virgiliano Park is a real jewel in the heart of Naples, a place not to be missed for those who wish to experience peace and beauty.
