It is precisely the latter, one of the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance, who, thanks to his genius, left an indelible imprint on the city, which holds some of his most famous works. 

In the basilica of San Francesco is the Bacci Chapel decorated with frescoes of the Legend of the True Cross a true absolute masterpiece of Piero della Francesca. The civic museum also houses several works by the painter including the Madonna del parto one of his most iconic images and the polyptych of mercy.
