The Tower of Pisa is perhaps the first thing that comes to mind, along with the Coliseum, when we talk about Italy (after pizza of course). It is an iconic monument, not to be missed, to visit absolutely when traveling in Italy. Then let’s prepare our visit to the best!

The tower

What we usually call Torre or Leaning Tower is nothing more than the bell tower of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, located in Pisa in Piazza Duomo (the whole complex has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987). The construction began in 1173 and already at the third ring the works (for almost a century) were suspended due to the failure of the land. Thanks to several architectural solutions it was completed in the middle of 1300 and is now constantly under supervision. It is therefore the clay nature of the soil that causes the characteristic slope of the tower (and indeed also of the surrounding buildings), making it unique in the world.
