Better than Paris and Berlin. A recent survey by EasyJet names Rome the preferred travel destinations for Brits for the Christmas break.
The Colosseum defeats the Eiffel Tower.
This is the result of the Christmas survey shared by the low cost airline EasyJet naming Rome as the favorite destination for British tourists for Christmas 2022.
Rome is ahead of other European capitals such as Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and Reykjavik.
The English tabloid Mirror reported the news, revealing that the two thousand Britons interviewed in the survey would love to spend Christmas festivities in Rome to enjoy world-renowned cuisine, a romantic atmosphere and explore the antiquities.
We certainly cannot blame the British tabloid.
In fact, Rome offers an almost unrivalled variety of restaurants, museums, Christmas markets (like the one in Piazza Navona) and historical sites to visit.
It’s enough to fill the wish list of tourists from all over the world.
The symbol of the Roman Empire
A symbol of Rome in the world.
The Colosseum, or Flavian Amphitheater, is the most visited monument in Italy and one of Rome’s must-see attractions.
Gladiators and exotic wild beasts stepped on the sand of this arena fighting each other to death, putting up a show to entertain the people and the elite of ancient Rome.
But this majestic amphitheater was also used in the past for re-enactments of epic naval battles, public events and theatrical dramas: a real entertainment center that could accommodate up to 87,000 spectators.
Over the course of its two thousand years of history, the Colosseum has changed its function several times, while always remaining the main iconic landmark of the city.
The stunning and melancholic beauty of the 80 travertine arches hides the history and secrets of the largest amphitheater in the Roman world.
There is too much to discover and only a knowledgeable guide can satisfy all the curiosities of the visitors.Book now the Ultimate Colosseum Arena Small Group Tour❯
A guided tour
The best way to explore the Colosseum is therefore through a guided tour, benefiting from top-notch guides and priority access to skip the queues.
There are many options for visiting it and you can combine different attractions of the archaeological circuit.
You can choose the small group tour of the Colosseum that walks you under the Gate of Death, the visit that includes the Colosseum and the Roman Forum, or even the combined tour that explores the Palatine Hill.
On the other hand, if you prefer an exclusive and original visit to the Colosseum, we recommend the underground and arena tour.
In this tour the guide will take you to the secrets of the lower levels of the amphitheater, visiting underground chambers between trapdoors, lifts and the cages that locked up the beasts. This guided tour of the Colosseum also offers a priceless 360º view from the arena, right from the perspective of the gladiators.
The Colosseum is located in the heart of Rome, in an area of unparalleled archaeological value, a short distance from the namesake Metro B stop and well connected to different bus lines (51, 75, 85, 87, 117).Book now the Exclusive Colosseum Underground and Arena Tour❯
